5.14.08 On his way to the Bandit Run 2008, Red had a major engine problem with his 79 Trans Am with only 40k miles. He just sent me this pictures of his new car.... "Pace Car Turbo-Trans AM"

5.13.08 Thanks to red for these cell phone shots. Since I can't make the run this year until the Year One event, Bill will keep us in the loop with his cell phone. Bill aka "Red" had a set back this year.... On his way to the start of the Bandit Run, his 79 Trans Am with 40k miles blew the motor. He's along for the ride in a black trans am pictured below. Starting Morning May 13th 2008 at 8:00 a.m. hotel parking lot.

Bandit Run 08 Smokey and the Bandit Filming Locations Tour

This is tour is optional and included for all Bandit Runners!

Yes, boys and girls it’s that time again. We are going to tour some of the locations where the movie was filmed for Smokey and the Bandit. For those of you that went last time, I hope you can make it again this year. I know I had a blast and surprisingly no one wound up in jail. I have never heard so many movie quotes over the CB in my life. You guys were crazier than I am, and I’m pretty crazy.

This year will be different as we will tour on Friday, May 16th. I know last year many had to head home on Sunday and missed it. This will be an optional tour as the Year One Experience will open on Friday. We plan to leave from the Year One parking lot in the morning and return mid- afternoon. The route is from Braselton to Atlanta to Jonesboro to YOE. Lunch plans and more details will be announced soon. 

This year I have obtained permission to show everyone Lakewood Fairgrounds. There is an event already scheduled there on the 16th, so we will need to be flexible with their security. This is where the beginning and the end of the movie were filmed. It is also where the Hammock scene, the gate Snowman crashed, the Southern Classic Racetrack Grandstands, and the very end of the movie where Bandit says, "Look over your left shoulder" were filmed. 

Other locations near Jonesboro: 
1. Snowman’s House (torn down), 
2. Branford’s Roadblock ,Texarkana, TX (in the movie), "Coor’s" Warehouse
3. Cop Car in ake backwards (first chase scene in the movie with Frog, fisherman jumps in lake), 
Where the Bandit picked up Frog in her wedding dress,
Lake where Fred went swimming, 
4. Bridge that Bandit jumped over (some of it is still there), Where Buford said, "What we’re dealing with here is a total lack of respect", 
5. Where Buford lost his roof ,
Car in ditch being pulled out by wrecker and Buford argues with cop about his fowl language,
6. and lastly, the welcome to Texarkana sign scene. 

7. Then we will return to the Year One Experience. 

You will need reservations for this tour, please! I need your name and contact information. The car count is very critical because we might need traffic control from our good friends in law enforcement. Police helping the Bandits? That’s a switch. But seriously, getting through Atlanta and Jonesboro in the morning will be tricky. I will provide maps and information (including my cell number if you get lost) as I did last year. The more CB’s the better as I need everyone "to run my back door" again. We don’t want to lose anybody.

Bandit Runners Lori & David Hersheys 77 SE Trans AM is going to be a movie star. Here's what David wrote on Motortopia.

"My car was recently used in a movie due out in 09. It was produced by Will Ferrell and has some pretty big name stars in it including Ving Rhames, Jeremy Piven, James Brolin and more. They specifically asked for a black 77 Trans Am SE. They contacted Dave Hall to find one and he referred them to me (thanks Dave!). As you'll see from the pics, they had to 'wear down' my car a bit for it's part in the movie. It is the centerpiece of a used car lot in a new movie called 'The Goods: The Don Ready Story.' It actually has a scripted character name...they call it the 'Batmobile' and we've learned it's actually an integral part of the plot. They really had to do some 'work' on it (that 8 layers of clear coat Dave Hall put on it made it look too nice!). But, don't choke on that Diablo sandwich yet...they used special movie powder to simulate the scratches, dents and worn paint. Afterwards, they sent a whole detail crew to my house to make it like new again. The guy in the pics with us is David Koechner..one of the stars of the movie...you'll recognize him from several Will Ferrell movies including Anchorman, Talladega Nights and Semi Pro. 2.3.08 This is posted on Bandits Trans Am Club web site. I was watching speed t.v. when they auctioned this car and was shocked when the bid keep going and going up.... 1980 Bandit Trans Am sells for $63,000.00 at Barrett Jackson Auction!
